This event is being held at the Veterans Memorial Complex in Culver City on 20 March 2018.

Featured Speakers: Erika Cilengir, CBAP and Yvonne Hull, CBAP

Capturing business requirements is at the heart of the business analyst’s role. When effective, requirements align with a business case and guide a transformation to a new and better business. But requirements elicitation isn’t always a straight-forward process. In fact, with a few quick missteps and the pressure of a deadline, you can easily find yourself inadvertently handing the solution team …well… a “solution,” rather than a true set of business requirements.

In this presentation, we will explore:

  • Differences between a business requirement and a solution
  • How you might find yourself on the path to documenting a solution
  • What steps you can take to ensure you are capturing the true business requirements

In addition, we will cover tips for working with stakeholders intent on a particular solution. We will also provide exercises to reinforce key learnings.

About the Speakers:

Erika Cilengir, CBAP, is a Senior Manager in the Strategic Initiatives group at Beachbody, a leader in fitness products and nutritional supplements. In her current role, Erika manages large cross-functional programs and projects, with an emphasis on expansion into new markets.  She also helps define the corresponding business requirements. Prior to joining Beachbody in 2012, Erika had a long stint as a lead business analyst at Citigroup, where she was responsible for working with international business partners on Citibank's online banking system. She also worked at AXA Equitable, where she was the lead business analyst on a project that rolled out Salesforce to AXA’s salespeople. At the 2015 BBC Conference, Erika co-presented with Yvonne Hull on “Moving onto the Global Stage: A Requirements Framework for International Expansion.”  Erika and Yvonne also presented at the 2016 Southland Technology Conference on “Increasing Influence with your Stakeholders: Practical Steps to Building a Bridge of Trust.”

Yvonne Hull, CBAP, is a Senior Product Manager and advocate of sustainable software development practices at Beachbody, the makers of P90X®, INSANITY®, and other in-home fitness programs and supplements. During her 14-year career there, she has helped Beachbody grow from an unknown company of about 25 employees in one office to an internationally recognized brand with several lines of business. Yvonne has been a Business Analyst on many projects, including TeamBeachbody.com, the Coach Network, and the P90X app for the iPhone. When she isn’t working, she enjoys running, travelling, and working out to Beachbody’s various fitness programs.
